Yes! Halwa puri is actually quite easy to make at home.

For Suji Halwa

  • 1 cup suji (semolina)
  • ½ cup ghee
  • ¾–1 cup sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 3–4 green cardamoms
  • A little orange/yellow food color (optional)
  • Almonds or pistachios for garnish

Heat the ghee and lightly roast the cardamom and suji on medium-low heat until fragrant. In another pan, dissolve the sugar in water. Slowly add the hot sugar syrup to the roasted suji while stirring continuously. Add food color if you like and cook until the halwa becomes thick and glossy. Garnish with nuts.

For Puri

  • 2 cups flour (maida or atta)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1–2 tablespoons oil or ghee
  • Warm water as needed
  • Oil for deep frying

Mix the flour, salt and oil, then gradually add warm water and knead into a smooth, medium-soft dough. Cover and let it rest for about 30 minutes. Make small balls, roll them into round puris and deep-fry in hot oil until they puff up and turn golden.

You can serve the puris with suji halwa, chana/chickpea curry, and aloo bhujia for a complete Pakistani-style halwa puri breakfast.

Hope you enjoy your homemade halwa puri!
